In 1978 the newly founded Mississippi Museum of Art in Jackson initiated a sculpture competition to inaugurate the opening of the new museum. This is the first, last minute, drawing for an outdoor sculpture that Jerry submitted. The museum requested he redraw his plan and resubmit it to the selection committee, which he did. (See his second submission drawing). He won a $250 Merit Award but not the final commission. The juror was John Fuhr, Director of Exhibitions and Lectures, Sculpture Corporation, Chicago, IL.
